The Child Within

I remember when I was young and small,
The world was new and I felt tall.
I played with toys and ran outside,
And felt the joy of being alive.
But as I grew, so did my mind,
The world grew bigger and harder to find.
Responsibilities came into play,
And the carefree days were swept away.
I learned about society and its ways,
And the expectations of life's many phases.
Relationships became a new thing,
And the emotions that they bring.
I fell in love, and oh, what a ride!
The thrill, the fear, the joy inside.
But with love came a weight to bear,
The fear of losing, of pain and despair.
I yearn for the simplicity of youth,
To feel again the purest truth.
To play, to love, and to be free,
To live in the moment, just like me.
But I know that life is not a game,
And growing up is not to blame.
I must face the challenges head on,
And never forget where I came from.
For even as the world grows tough,
I still have the heart of a child that's enough.
To love and laugh, to dream and hope,
To find the light in the darkest slope.
I cherish the lessons life brings,
And cling to the joy each moment sings.
To be brave, to love, to never give in,
And always remember the child within.
